Play:

North Country Over 6.5 million (-150) <1.5/1> WSEX
Doom Over 19.5 <1.05/1> Olympic

North Country - This line is way off. All the projections I've seen have this opening between 9-12 million.

Doom - This line is actually what I thought it would be. This is a coin flip, however, with some name actors attached to it, a lot of fans of the video game, and a wide release (over 3,000 theaters), I look for this to open with about 21 million. It will be close though. North Country is a much stronger play.

Hopefully you went with North Country and not Doom, not saying Doom is a bad play, but North Country is definitely much stronger in my opinion. Doom is definitely 50/50, I predicted it would make about 18-21 million and the line was 19.5. The reason I went with the over is I took a look at the Resident Evil movies. Both movies (Doom and R.E.) are based off of a very popular video game series, both are similar in terms of plot, and both are rated R. Resident Evil: Apocalypse took in 23 million last year around this same time in about 200 more theaters for about a $7,000 average per location. I look for about the same for Doom giving it about 21 million. I could be wrong though, considering the World Series starts Saturday and the NFL on Sunday could keep people away. We will see. Good luck!

Well, bad week at the box office, not only was it down for umpteenth week this year, but neither bet cashed. Doom was not even close debuting with only 15.5 million and North Country debuted with 6.4 million. I still can't believe North Country did not hit as we only needed less than 100K for a winner. I still believe the line was off and under the same lines, I would make that bet again. The funny thing is I checked the line at Olympic right before noon and they had it set at 5.5 million, which would have easily cashed. Oh well, I won't let one bad week affect me. Next week, I will definitely be taking a close look at the lines for Saw II and The Legend of Zorro. Be back Thursday when the lines are posted, hopefully with a play or two.

In Spades - Sorry about the bad week! I felt the bets were right, just the results did not pan out. Good luck with the rest of your plays.

I took the over 5.5 for North Country at Oly, so I split.
